Today I’m going to be writing about The Worble Shack. A small business run by Charlotte and Vicky who produce British Sign Language (BSL) themed gifts.

A relatively new business (established September 2019) this duo started their journey back in 2017. They both attended a Level 1 British Sign Language course at their local college. Their friendship blossomed during the following years whilst studying. Both are currently still studying British Sign Language, but at Level 3.

Last year (2019) a mutual friend got married and both Charlotte and Vicky created their own, bespoke British Sign Language gift. This was due to wanting to gift a meaningful, thoughtful wedding present. It was then they both investigated whether there was a gap in the market for BSL themed gifts. So, in September 2019, The Worble Shack was born.

Trading initially was confined to just the Etsy platform. Soon they started to take orders from their Facebook shop and soon through Instagram and Twitter too. It was Twitter that I first discovered The Worble Shack. I’m not deaf or have anyone close to me who is. But I thought it was a brilliant product idea. So unique, educational and charming. I also thought it might be cool to finger sign the alphabet. You never know when you might require this skill and I believe it should be taught in schools as part of the curriculum.

Awards.

I’m not the only one to think so either, in such a short trading period of only 8 months The Worble Shack has won multiple awards. These include the Jacqueline Gold’s #WOW award, and The Small Business Sunday #SBS award from Theo Paphitis.

Each piece is custom made and created with love using Scrabble sized wooden tiles. The love doesn’t stop with the creation either, this same love goes into packaging. The Worble Shack is passionate about reusing packaging and using recyclable materials. Dedicated so much in fact that they’ve been known to iron out pre-used tissue paper!

Not only is this a brilliant gift company, but it’s run by two friends who are enjoying their business journey together. Reminds me of Solar Buddies, another company who I’ve worked with before, who are now hugely successful and remain best friends.

Today I’ll be writing about a custom frame unique to me.

Packaging and Contents.

The Worble Shack BSL frame came heavily packaged in bubble wrap and wrapped in Brown paper. It arrived in one piece without any issues whatsoever. Inside the packaging I received a custom frame.

The frame is quite chunky and measures 20.0cm x 20.0cm x 3.5cm and its Light Grey in colour. You’re able to contact The Worble Shack and ask for a different frame colour, choose your own design an even how you’d like it to be laid out. In fact, most people are sent updates throughout creation to ensure it’s to their own specifications.

I not only received this beautiful frame with Silver glitter stars, but I also received a paper bag containing each letter of the British Sign Language alphabet too. So, I’ll be able to (or attempt badly) at finger signing.

Each tile measures 1.9cm, which are the same as standard Scrabble sized tiles.

The wood is Alder (Part of the Birch Tree family) and The Worble Shack currently import these tiles from Canada.

Each piece features the British Sign Language on a right-handed format along with the standard Scrabble value numbers.

Finger Spelling.

Finger spelling is the basic language you can master when learning British Sign Language, and it’s something that is quite easy to learn. You don’t need to be a TV translator to communicate with a deaf person, you can communicate each letter at a time. It’s much easier to learn than a foreign language and anyone can learn this life skill. You’ll never know when this skill might need to be applied.

The below image is from the British Sign Language website to demonstrate the finger spelling alphabet.

The Worble Shack kindly sent me an additional H & L letter so I could write out my website name in BSL format.

I’m still learning and keep confusing H, M and N. It’s trying to learn the correct finger amount and motion for the H. I will get there soon. Hopefully.

It’s what I love most about The Worble Shack, not only is this a brilliant gift, but it’s also a fun way to learn a new skill.

So, if you have an upcoming Wedding, Graduation, Birthday, or other celebration get in touch with The Worble Shack can accommodate your vision of that perfect, unique and personalised gift. Check out their Etsy store for some inspiration. Send them a Tweet too using their handle @WorbleThe and request your next gift.

Conclusion.

I love the product range from The Worble Shack. I normally score on my website from 1 to 10, but I’d like to score more than that for this product. Honestly in my opinion the best gift idea you can buy. I’ve reviewed loads of gifts on this website and this easily scores above them all. Give it 5 years and The Worble Shack will be a well-known household name.

I cannot emphasise enough how brilliant The Worble Shack is, and I’m not alone either. They currently have a 5-star rating on Etsy too, and it’s easy to see why.
