How to create marketing materials for your business

How to create marketing materials for your business. If your business is going to be a success, then you’ll need to get the message out to your would-be customers. After all, if people don’t know who you are and what you can do for them, then they’ll be unable to favour you with their custom.

This is where an effective marketing campaign comes in. This is something that you might be inclined to entrust to a specialist outsider – but having a grasp of the basics can point you in the right direction from the start, especially if you’re going to be dealing with everything in-house.

Pay Attention to Colour.

Colour matters a great deal. Think about which colours you’d like to have associated with your brand. Make sure that everything is consistent across all of your marketing channels. If your website looks different to your printed materials, then you risk confusing customers.

Bear in mind that colours will often look different in print than they do on a screen, especially if you’re using an inferior-quality screen to monitor things. Make sure that you see a preview of the final printed product before you finalise it.

Collect Inspiration.

During the early stages, it’s a good idea to collect as much inspiration as you need. Sites like Pinterest can be hugely helpful, here – but you might also consider a physical scrapbook, too. If you see something that you like the look of, and that you think you might like to draw inspiration from, then cut it out and paste it into your scrapbook.

Don’t Overcrowd Your Designs.

Generally speaking, the more complicated your design, the more potential there is for it to look bad. What you think looks fabulous to start with might actually be tiresome, especially if it’s going to be viewed on a small screen, where details won’t translate.

Until you know what you’re doing, it’s best to tend toward simplicity.

Compile Your Information.

You need to know exactly what message you’re trying to convey. Try to distil it down so that it’s expressed in the fewest possible words – but not at the expense of clarity. Your customers will have limited time to read your materials: respect that, and they will respect you!

Create a Scannable Layout.

It’s time to bring all of your elements together into a cohesive whole. Whether it’s a poster, a website, or a business card, it should be easy to scan and digest. Pay attention to where the eye is being naturally drawn, and test the design on plenty of volunteers. For most of us, it’s a good idea to use a design template – this way, you’ll avoid the common pitfalls, and end up with results that look professional, even on a modest budget.
