COSTWAY 4 in 1 Portable Air Conditioner

Today I’ll be writing a review for the COSTWAY 4 in 1 Portable Air Conditioner. This is a personal purchase, COSTWAY aren’t aware of this review as I write this review. A few weeks ago, we purchased a portable air conditioner for our home, the UK then had an unusual Autumnal type of weather pattern, that was until the first week of September. Now, we’re in heatwave conditions!

So, I thought it was an ideal time to publish a review for the COSTWAY 4 in 1 Portable Air Conditioner, maybe you’ve seen a ton of portable air conditioners on the market and unsure if they’re any good? Maybe you want to plan for next year? Perhaps you’ve seen this mode and unsure if COSTWAY is a trustworthy brand?

Well hopefully after today’s review I can give you some assurances. I usually take my own photographs for reviews, but I can’t for this item, simply put, I don’t have the equipment to photograph such a large item. So, you’ll have to make do with stock images, but of course I’ll write the review as I would normally do. Also, for extra peace of mind I’ll be writing from experience in terms of air conditioning. I’m a fully qualified air conditioning/refrigeration engineer, and if it’s one thing I know, it’s air con!

So, is this portable air conditioner any good? Time to test it out!

COSTWAY 4 in 1 Portable Air Conditioner.

The COSTWAY 4 in 1 Portable Air Conditioner measures ‎31.0cm x 31.0cm x 70.0cm and weighs 24KG. I quite like the square 31.0cm shape, means you can easily store in the corner of your room when not in use, the unit doesn’t protrude outward beyond the 31.0cm size. I’ve had an older unit previously that was bulky at the back and wouldn’t store away properly. But as the exhaust hose easily slides off from the back of the unit, you can wheel the unit into storage.

You get four modes with the COSTWAY 4 in 1 Portable Air Conditioner, hence the 4 in 1 part. These modes are:

  • Cool Mode: Select a temperature between 16°C and 32°C. With a cooling capacity of 9000 BTU with a 25-30㎡ cooling area.
  • Fan Mode: Use like a room fan, will circulate air.
  • Dehumidify Mode: Use this mode to remove excess humidity, ideal for winter use to prevent condensation. Capable of removing 24L of moisture per day.
  • Sleep Mode: Under the sleep mode, the pre-set temperature increases 1℃ every hour (stop increasing after 2 hours), and the unit auto shuts off after 12-hour running. The low noise and 1-24H timer allows you to enjoy a peaceful and undisturbed sleep environment.

You get two fan speeds too. You can control everything from either the supplied remote control or on the unit itself.

Using the COSTWAY 4 in 1 Portable Air Conditioner.

The supplied window kit is useless if you’ve got a standard open outward type of window, it only works for sliding type windows. But that’s not an issue as such, you can still use with slinging out the exhaust hose out of your window anyway. You get a generous 150.0cm exhaust hose length and a 180.0cm UK spec power cable too.

You also get two ways to drain the collected condensate, either allow the unit to automatically collect water in an in-built 650ml water tank, then simply empty when required, the unit even has a water alarm to alert you that the tank is full. For peace of mind the unit shuts off until emptied, so no worrying about overflowing condensate. The other method is to use the supplied 60.0cm drainage hose for continuous drainage. I chose the standard water tank method and simply empty when required.

When you first switch on the unit, no cooling occurs for the first 10 minutes, then slowly the compressor comes to life, you can adjust airflow manually via the louvres, both vertical and horizontal selections. The unit has a 65dB rating on high cooling mode, this is equivalent to a vacuum cleaner in terms of noise, obviously different modes and a lower fan speed will be a lot quieter.

COSTWAY even have a child lock feature too, preventing young hands from messing with the unit.

Conclusion.

I’m actually very impressed with the COSTWAY 4 in 1 Portable Air Conditioner. For a portable unit for the home, it’s ideal. Last night (5th September 2023) our bedroom was 27.0°C at around 20:00, around 22:00 it was a comfortable 20.8°C. This made for a more comfortable night’s sleep, we didn’t use the sleep function as the ambient outside temperature was around the same ambient of our room, so just slept with the window open.

I highly recommend the COSTWAY 4 in 1 Portable Air Conditioner. It’s not just a summer use product either, we fully intend to use the dehumidifying feature throughout winter, we already own a dehumidifier, but now can effectively remove moisture from both downstairs and upstairs at the same time.
