Avoalre Christmas String Lights

Today I’ll be writing a review for these Avoalre Christmas String Lights. These lights are battery operated, which isn’t anything exciting until you hear you get 40M worth 300 LED’s! Yes, 300 LED’s that are battery operated.

You can use these lights both internally and externally too, and also have a choice of colours too, cool white, multi-coloured, or warm white, which I have today.

That’s not all, you also get 8 different lighting modes, and automatic 6-hour timer too.

For today’s review I thought I’d make a point of saying I’ve been using HiQuick 2800mAh NI-MH AA Rechargeable Batteries, as the battery you use makes all the difference to the longevity of the lights. No point in using a cheap battery that only lasts a few hours and is binned. I highly recommend using rechargeable batteries with these lights. So today’s review is based upon using the above mentioned batteries. Different batteries will give different results, and along with what light mode you select etc.

So, are these lights any good? Time to test them out!

Avoalre Christmas String Lights.

The Avoalre Christmas String Lights have a generous 40M length of 300 LED’s, you also get a detachable IP44 rated battery box with a lead of 40cm. The cable is made from Oxygen Free Copper, each LED bulb is made from Polyvinyl Chloride and measures 25.8mm x 4.6m. You get a 50,000 hour lifespan of each LED, with each LED producing 0.35W of power.

You get 8 different lighting modes, simply press the black button to switch between the modes. Cycle right through to the 9th option to turn them off.

Right, I have seen numerous negative comments on the Avoalre Amazon page regarding the timer function. I think I know what’s happening. It’s true these lights have a timer function, but it’s not programmable, it’s automatically set to switch on the lights for 6 hours, then off for 18 hours, before switching back on again. People assume you can manually programme a time, but this is merely confusing terminology within the Amazon listing.

The battery box also has a memory function too, remembering your last selected mode.

You need 3x AA batteries to power on the Avoalre Christmas String Lights. As mentioned above I opted for the HiQuick 2800mAh NI-MH AA Rechargeable Batteries and I’m happy I did so. I tested the lights out to see how long these batteries would last, I used the first lighting mode of combination, which uses all the lighting modes in a random fashion. Different light modes will consume/save battery power.

Battery Power.

I ran out of time to fully drain the batteries, but I have done a timed test of 12 hours, utilising the automatic 6 hour timer twice. My batteries are still powering the LED’s, they’re still bright and flashing away.

So I’m going to have to resort to some technical shizzle to see in testing conditions how long my batteries will last. Bear with me, I may get lost here.

Each battery has a mAh rating of 2800. These lights require 3 batteries, so have a combined mAh rating of 8,400. Next I need to calculate the consumption power of the lights.

Each LED has a power rating of 0.35W, multiply that by 40 and you get 14W. The lights have a 24V rating. You need to convert that to mAh which works out roughly as 583.3mAh.

A total battery capacity of 8,400 mAh can be divided by the 583.3 mAh product capacity and you get an estimated battery life of 14.4 Hours. Remember this is based on ideal conditions, light modes used, and temperature can also affect battery life.

Conclusion.

I’m impressed with the Avoalre Christmas String Lights. I couldn’t believe just how long my AA batteries lasted, I had a preconceived idea that you’d get an hour, maybe two at most, but stand corrected and astounded with the longevity. It’s unbelievable to think you can get around 14 hours with 300 LED’s.
