XTAR PB2SL V2

Can a single device truly replace multiple chargers and power banks? Let’s find out as I explore the new XTAR PB2SL V2.

Today I’ll be writing a review for the XTAR PV2SL V2 Battery Charger.

I have reviewed a few XTAR products over the years, and previously, two of them was the XTAR PB2SL and the XTAR PB2S.

So, what makes the new XTAR PV2SL V2 different from its predecessors?

At first glance you’d be forgiven if you don’t notice any difference, but I can assure you it’s a huge upgrade.

And, as with all XTAR products, safety is their number one priority, I have previously highly praised XTAR for putting safety above profit.

The XTAR PB2SL V2 isn’t any different, you get all the usual XTAR safety features along with some impressive upgrades.

You get both a battery charger, and a handy and portable power bank.

The XTAR PV2SL V2 also utilises multiple fast-charging protocols including QC4+, PD3.0, PPS, and AFC for quick charging, and with charging speeds of up to 22.5W.

So, is the PV2SL V2 worth the upgrade?

Time to find out!

Upgrades to the V2.

Having previously reviewed the original PB2SL, I was thrilled with the V2.

XTAR has taken user feedback to heart, delivering a significant change in daily usability.

One of the most welcome changes is the startup method.

The original PB2SL required a specific sequence, insert the battery, then the power adapter to boot up without issues.

The new XTAR PV2SL V2 eliminates this frustration entirely.

It now starts in any order, so whether I plug in the power first or insert the battery, the device will begin working seamlessly.

Another welcome upgrade is the improved low-current mode.

On the old model, entering this mode was a hassle, but the PV2SL V2 simplifies this with a simple double-click to enter or exit the mode while the screen is on.

This makes it perfect for safely charging my Bluetooth earbuds, smartwatches, or other low-power devices without guesswork.

Intelligent Charging & Safety.

As with all XTAR products, safety is paramount, and the XTAR PV2SL V2 features some excellent upgrades.

Unlike the V1, which could be damaged if a battery was replaced during operation, the V2 safely supports hot-swapping.

This means I can replace batteries worry-free.

The XTAR PV2SL V2 also has Smart Energy Balance technology, which safely and simultaneously charges or discharges two batteries with different capacities.

It also incorporates an Intelligent 3-Stage Charging process to protect my batteries.

This includes trickle charging to revive low-voltage batteries, constant current for fast charging, and constant voltage for a full charge, all of which minimise damage to the battery cells.

I also noticed a feature I didn’t have with the old PB2SL, and that’s a Low Voltage Activation feature that can bring over-discharged batteries back to life with a micro-current.

This saves me money and energy.

Design, Compatibility & Display.

You get a twin magnetic enclosure, and something new for the PV2SL V2 is a plastic swivel piece, which has been designed to hold 18650 batteries in place.

Another great upgrade is the removable plastic locking spacer, which allows you to easily convert the charger to accommodate a 21700 battery cell, something which wasn’t possible with the PB2S battery charger.

The XTAR PV2SL V2 offers a wide compatibility for popular battery sizes, including 18650, 18700, 20700, and 21700 batteries.

This means I can easily DIY my power bank capacity by simply replacing the batteries as needed.

The display has also received a significant upgrade.

The old model would confusingly display ‘OUT1’ upon battery insertion, even with no device connected.

The new XTAR PV2SL V2 provides accurate, clear battery information for each slot, giving me more precise feedback and less confusion.

The battery status updates every 10s, which is twice as fast as the old model.

Universal Fast Charging & Ports.

When it comes to speed and compatibility, the XTAR PV2SL V2 is a true performer.

The device supports multiple fast-charging protocols including QC4+, PD3.0, PPS, and AFC for efficient charging.

It delivers up to 22.5W of output, easily fast-charging external devices.

To get the maximum charging speed, I can pair the XTAR PV2SL V2 with a QC3.0, PD 65W, PD 45W, or PD 20W adapter.

A key new feature is the addition of dual output ports: USB-C & USB-A.

This means I can charge multiple devices at the same time for multitasking convenience.

The PV2SL V2 is also equipped with Smart Energy Balance technology, which safely and simultaneously charges or discharges two batteries with different capacities, maximising battery lifespan and efficiency.

Conclusion.

I’m genuinely impressed with the XTAR PV2SL V2 Battery Charger.

As someone who has used its predecessors, I can confidently say this model represents a significant leap forward in both functionality and user-friendliness.

The ability to charge 21700 battery cells is a fantastic addition, and the simple plastic swivel piece is a small but brilliant upgrade that makes using 18650 cells so much better.

The standout feature for me is the combination of its power and intelligence.

This isn’t just a simple charger; it’s a smart hub for my batteries.

The dual USB-C and USB-A output ports, combined with the wide range of fast-charging protocols, mean I can easily use it to charge my phone, tablet, and other devices without needing a separate power bank.

It simplifies my travel kit and gives me one less thing to worry about.

XTAR’s commitment to safety is clear, from the new hot-swapping capability to the clever 3-stage charging and low-voltage activation.

I can’t fault the XTAR PV2SL V2 at all, it’s a truly great improvement on an already excellent product, and a must-have for anyone who uses lithium-ion batteries regularly.
