SoundPEATS GoFree 2

Today I’ll be reviewing the SoundPEATS GoFree 2 wireless earbuds. This is the first My Helpful Hints review for 2024 and the start of a series of brilliant branded products for your eyes. I’ve reviewed several times for SoundPEATS now. No secret that I’m a huge fan!

Today’s offering is another new release from SoundPEATS, it seems every couple of weeks they’re dropping new products for the world to ogle over. This I believe is the first air conduction type of earbuds I’ve reviewed, but certainly the first type for SoundPEATS at least.

In case you aren’t aware what air conduction earbuds are, I’ll bore you just a sec, won’t take long. Air conduction is different to bone conduction. Bone conduction sends vibrations via your bone structure to your inner ear. Whereas, air conduction sends the audio to your ear via soundwaves and your inner ear picks up the soundwaves as a vibration via your ear drum. Yeah, think that kind of explains the basics.

Anyhow, back to the review. Equipped with a 16.2mm bio-membrane speaker, Hi-Res audio certification and support advanced LDAC audio codec, the SoundPEATS GoFree 2 deliver an almost lossless audio quality experience for users. That’s not all, you get a Bluetooth V5.3 connection with a low latency connection, so ideal for both audio and visual use such as watching videos or gaming.

So are they any good? Time to test them out!

Packaging and Contents.

The SoundPEATS GoFree 2 wireless earbuds come packaged in a cardboard box, which shows product images and specifications printed on it. The box measures 12.6cm x 12.6cm x 4.0cm and weighs 199G.

Inside the box you’ll find the following: 1x Earbuds, 1x Charging Case, 1x USB-C/USB/A Charging Cable (which measures 26.0cm), 1x Multi-Lingual User Guide.

You can use the supplied charging cable to charge your earbuds, or use any USB-C cable, doesn’t matter to be honest. Charging takes around 2 hours to fully charge the charging case. The earbuds take around 1.5 hours to charge. A handy charging indicator light is visible on the charging case.

To check the battery level, open the case, a solid green light indicates a 100%-50% battery level, a yellow light means 49%-10% remaining, and red indicates a battery level of under 10%.

Whilst in charge mode the same light indicates the following: <10%, a slow flashing red light is present, 11%-49% a yellow light, 50-99% this light shows a slow flashing green, a solid green light indicates a full 100% charge.

You get 35 hours of (using additional features like Hi-Res or Game Mode will change audio time) playtime too, which is brilliant. This is based on 9 hours of audio of the earbuds, and being recharged in the battery case 4 times before that requires a recharge itself.

SoundPEATS GoFree 2.

Each SoundPEATS GoFree 2 earbud measures 50.2mm x 38.6mm x 1.0mm and each one weighs 8.7G. The battery case measures 83.9mm x 64.8mm x 28.7mm and weighs 73.5G (case and two earbuds together). I’m gonna say it now, I hate the battery case of the SoundPEATS GoFree 2.

It has that sort of matte look, but feels like plastic which has aged and becomes sticky leaving behind fingerprints and attracts dust too easily, it easily becomes grubby with little effort.

Please SoundPEATS address this issue and change the outer material or finish.

Thankfully the earbuds themselves have a different coating. One, which doesn’t leave behind marks.

I do like the design internally of the battery case though. Both earbuds sit beautifully in their magnetic contacts and look very impressive charging.

Each earbud features a left/right ear wearing indicator on the reverse area.

Using the SoundPEATS GoFree 2.

You simply clip the earbud on the outer ear area, nothing enters your ear at all. This does take some getting used to, especially if you’re used to wearing conventional earbuds. They’re also a little heavy too at 8.7G, but strangely after a few minutes of use, you soon forget this and this isn’t an issue.

Connection via an excellent Bluetooth V.5.3 wireless connection. Not gonna go into too much detail about pairing, it’s standard stuff. SoundPEATS have an advertised Bluetooth wireless range of 10M, although distances of excess of 15M are easily achieved with no signal loss. One thing SoundPEATS does well is superb Bluetooth signal strength.

You can also utilise the SoundPEATS app, this app is available free of charge to both Android and iOS users. I wrote more about the SoundPEATS app in a previous review, so I won’t repeat myself, and with the magic of internal linking, you’ll see this section by clicking or tapping here!

Multi-Function Touch.

You also get multifunctional touch controls too. There’s a touch-sensitive control area on the largest facing part. You’re able to control volume, track selection and more. I’ll list the full functions below:

  • Play/Pause: Double tap either earbud.
  • Volume Down: Single tap the left earbud.
  • Volume Up: Single tap the right earbud.
  • Skip Track: Log press the right earbud.
  • Previous Tracks: Long press the left earbud.
  • Answer/End Call: Double tap either earbud.
  • Reject Phone Call: Long press either earbud for 1.5s.
  • Switch Between Two Active Calls: Long press either earbud for 1.5s.
  • Activate Voice Assistant: Triple tap the right earbud.
  • Enter Game Mode: Triple tap the left earbud.

The touch sensitivity works well, very precise. SoundPEATS are very good at producing audio with accurate touch sensitive user controls.

Game Mode allows you to seamlessly watch video and lips will be in sync with the words, with an exceptionally low 60ms latency. Ideal for both watching video and playing online games. You can also activate Game Mode via the app too, simply slide the toggle bar for Game Mode.

Sound Quality.

SoundPEATS have done it again. The SoundPEATS GoFree 2 earbuds sound absolutely brilliant. Like magic too with no hardware entering your inner ear canal. People aren’t going to believe me at this rate about just how good SoundPEATS products are. Honestly, you’ll struggle to find any audio gear coming close to a SoundPEATS product.

Audio is crisp, clear and no distortion with the SoundPEATS GoFree 2 all thanks to LDAC™ audio technology. You’re also able to hear your surrounding environment too, ideal for those that like to go running, not me obviously, too fat and lazy, but those that like that kind of thing will love the SoundPEATS GoFree 2 earbuds.

If you also love to go outside in the rain (these people do exist apparently) then you’ll love to hear the SoundPEATS GoFree 2 are also IPX5 rated, so completely safe to wear outside in the rain.

If you’re unfortunate enough to have your audio interrupted with phone calls then you’ll at least be pleased to hear the SoundPEATS GoFree 2 have you covered. Equipped with a dual noise cancellation microphone, so your call is clear and your voice can be picked up easily by the caller, even in loud environments.

Conclusion.

The SoundPEATS GoFree 2 have certainly surprised me. Another brilliant product from SoundPEATS. The air conduction is amazing too. The only issue I have is merely aesthetic, but for me that’s a big problem, hoping SoundPEATS change the outer material in future releases. But as an audio product the SoundPEATS GoFree 2 meet and exceed expeditions.
