MightySkins

Today I’ll be writing a review for MightySkins, a US based vinyl graphic design ecommerce website. You can custom design your console, phone, audio, or other smart tech. The MightySkins website has lots of models of common electronic goods to choose from, so anything from major consoles to doorbells, and everything else in between.

I ordered two skins for two different devices, one for my Samsung S20 FE, and another for my Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen).

I also decided to try out two different finishes, for the phone I chose a carbon fibre finish, and for the doorbell, a glossy glitter finish. MightySkins also have a matte finish too.

So, are these vinyl decals any good? Time to test them out!

Packaging and Contents.

My ordered item arrived in a carboard envelope, directly shipped from the state of Florida, delivery took just over a week to the UK, which isn’t too bad at all.

You also get a handy installation guide; this guide is very useful and ensures you can correctly install your skin without any damage. MightySkins YouTube videos are available too, both for advertising and help with installation (dependant on your device), and with the power of links you’ll see a MightySkins video just below this.

Installation.

With two devices to custom wrap, I decided to start with my Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen), I ordered a colourful skin named Imaginary.

I followed all the installation instructions. Instantly ran into an issue, MightySkins supplied a skin that wouldn’t align with my Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen), I double checked, triple checked to ensure I did have in fact a 2nd generation Ring Doorbell (confirmed with my Amazon ordering page and by checking the back of the doorbell for the model number).

I tried right side up, upside down, every which way, still it wouldn’t line up, the cut outs weren’t in the right place, parts of the doorbell such as sensors were covered, the swirly pattern also didn’t line up, I tried to line up the pattern and it made things even worse. I’ll pop the image of my failed attempts below.

As you can see the cut-outs don’t align properly, the pattern doesn’t align either, it’s all wrong for the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen).

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE.

Thankfully I had ordered a skin for my Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. I ordered a solid Orange carbon fibre finish skin. Why Orange I hear you say? Because Orange is the best colour, although nothing can rhyme with it, which makes my above statement harder as I can’t be clever and rhyme my reason. Oh well!

As you can see the MightySkins vinyl wrap perfectly aligned around my Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. The finish was perfect along the bezel and easily folded around the corners without any issues at all. I’ve been using my device without a case now for around a week, just reliant on the MightySkins wrap, the carbon fibre finish I selected added an extra layer of grip whilst handling my device.

Conclusion.

It’s a hit and miss review for MightySkins. Absolutely disappointed that the Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Gen) skin didn’t fit, it was simply not correct, the pattern doesn’t align at all. The skin for my Samsung Galaxy S20 FE was perfect. But and here is the biggest decision maker in purchasing from MightySkins, the price!

As a reviewer I didn’t pay for either vinyl sticker, and that is something that I’m truly thankful for, because at $17.99 for each vinyl sticker I’d be kicking off big time, especially as one didn’t fit, and that’s before you take in the shipping cost of $12.49 to the UK.

Surely, I wasn’t the only one to have issues? Well, I wasn’t! A quick TrustPilot search later, and it was clear it wasn’t just me, literally tons of reviews of disappointed customers, from everything from things not fitting, poor customer services, and more.

Would I recommend MightySkins? I’m afraid it’s a no, they’re overpriced, lack quality and overall, a disappointing user experience. Imagine charging $17.99 for a single sticker, because that’s all it is, a sticker.
