Can a phone magnifier enhance a viewing experience for those that struggle to see mobile device screens? Is this the ideal solution to a common issue for the older generation? Is there any distortion? Today’s review for the KuDiff Phone Screen Magnifier will cover all of this.
Something a little different today for the My Helpful Hints website, a mobile device device screen magnifier. KuDiff sent me this 10″ screen magnifier to try out, now it must be said, I don’t have any real eyesight issue, a slight astigmatism, something, which doesn’t affect me in everyday life, only laptop use strangely enough, so I don’t have a need as such for a phone screen magnifier. But, I’m still going to write about the product itself, hopefully my review can help sway any purchasing decisions for this type of product.
The KuDiff Phone Screen Magnifier has a 2/3 magnification level, you can use all smartphones, tablets, kindles, upto a screen size of 10″, so covers a wide range of mobile screened devices.
You get a foldable and compact design, and the built-in stand allows you to position the magnifier to suit your needs.
So, without any further delay, let’s get on with the review.
Packaging and Contents.
The KuDiff Phone Screen Magnifier comes packaged in a cardboard box, which shows product images and specifications printed on it. The box measures 22.0cm x 17.0cm x 2.0cm and weighs 247G.
Inside the box you’ll receive one screen magnifier, the magnifier screen itself conveniently slides into the housing itself, so it’s all kept safe from scratches too. There is a basic step-by-step illustration on the reverse of the outer packaging. But, it’s a simple setup, but, something which I’ll cover in the review still.
KuDiff Phone Screen Magnifier.
The KuDiff Phone Screen Magnifier measures 21.0cm x 16.5cm x 1.7cm and weighs 202G. The slide out magnifying screen measures 19.0cm x 12.0cm, it’s worth pointing out this screen is made from plastic, and not glass.
You get a pull down angle stand on the underside which gives you around a 2.0cm height adjustment to play about it.
The grooved out area that holds your device is located under a flap.
Using the Screen Magnifier.
Firstly, to set up you need to slide out the magnifying screen and push firmly into the slot at the front of the unit. Next up, pull up the flap and pace in your device. Use the pull down tab stand to adjust the height. That’s it!
This is where I tested the KuDiff Phone Screen Magnifier. Apparently you can use a device both horizontally and vertically if you rotate the magnifier around. But, in reality anything vertically isn’t practicable it’s unstable, the only possible device size that would work vertically would be around 10.0cm in height, even then it would need to be to be 13.2mm or less in thickness to fit into the screen holder.
So, the only real way to view is horizontally. The grooved area allows for a device width of 180.mm. The flap also acts as a device stabiliser, but this only measures 37.0mm in height, and with around a 10° tilt.
Does it Work?
So, the important question you might be asking yourself, does this screen magnifier work? Yes…but mostly no!
Let me explain, it works in principle, for example it does make your device screen larger. But, the quality is so poor that it’s not really usable. The magnification is around 2/3 times that of your screen.
The magnifying screen focus is centrally focused, anything outside the middle section becomes increasingly blurry. Words lose letters, motion pictures become blurry and unfocused, and after a short period of time motion fatigue sets in, you will start to feel nauseous quite quickly. Imagine wearing someone else’s strong prescription glasses and walking about, you feel disorientated? That’s the effect you get viewing anything with this magnifying screen reader.
Light reflection is a big issue too, the magnifying screen picks up the light from your device, the surrounding background and makes viewing even more difficult.
The recommended viewing distance is around 1.5M, but anything beyond 80.0cm is too distorted. So to view, you need to sit close to the screen, which kind of defeats the purpose of the product, then coupled with the poor visual experiences you’d be better just using your device.
If you wish to watch a movie from your device on your T.V, most modern devices support some type of screen cast. Just, use that, seriously! If your device or T.V doesn’t support such a function, purchase a cable with HDMI output, such as a USB-C to HDMI cable for, check your device to see which cable you’d need. But, that’s probably the better option for optimum viewing enjoyment.

Conclusion.
The KuDiff Phone Screen Magnifier is a massive no for me, it simply doesn’t work as intended, and in fact, causes more problems than solutions. The sole purpose of the product is to make those with poor eyesight see their screens better, but, it makes things a lot worse. Having a centrally focused magnifying screen makes anything outside of this focal point of view blurry.
Unfortunately, I can’t recommend the KuDiff Phone Screen Magnifier. It’s a shame, as in principle, it’s a good product idea, but in reality, it simply doesn’t work.
