Can this tiny device really make a big difference to my music? Is the ddHiFi TC44Pro worth the upgrade from my standard USB-C port? Will the TC44Pro make my favourite songs sound even better? Let’s get to the review!
Today I’ll be reviewing the ddHiFi TC44Pro USB-C DAC a first for both myself and the website.
For those new to audio equipment, a DAC is essentially a translator for your music.
It takes digital music files – those ones and zeros your computer understands – and converts them into the analog sound waves that your ears can enjoy.
Think of it as the bridge between your digital music library and your headphones or speakers.
The ddHiFi TC44Pro is the culmination of years of audio refinement. Building on the strengths of its predecessors, the TC44B and TC44C, the TC44Pro delivers a meticulously tuned sound experience.
Upgraded internal components and optimised circuitry work in harmony to produce a balanced, detailed, and engaging audio performance.
The TC44Pro employs a dual Cirrus Logic CS43131 DAC architecture for exceptional audio fidelity.
A meticulously designed, symmetrical mainboard and high-quality silver solder connections optimise signal integrity, resulting in a robust and dynamic soundstage.
The TC44Pro’s robust build incorporates a 1800D carbon fiber rear panel for enhanced durability and protection.
This high-tech material not only safeguards the internal circuitry but also contributes to the device’s sleek and lightweight design.
The TC44Pro’s premium aluminium alloy chassis is a testament to ddHiFi’s commitment to quality.
The device boasts a sleek, modern design with a captivating titanium finish, exclusively reserved for the Pro series.
Packaging and Contents.
The ddHiFi TC44Pro USB-C DAC comes packaged in a white sleeved box which shows product images and specifications printed on it. The box measures 8.5cm x 8.5cm x 3.0cm and weighs 69G.
Inside the box you’ll find the following: 1x DAC and 1x Lanyard.
ddHiFi TC44Pro USB-C DAC.
The ddHiFi TC44Pro USB-C DAC measures 30.0mm x 17.7mm x 12.4mm and weighs 9.1G.
On one side you’ll see two holes to loop the lanyard through, the lanyard itself measures 26.5mm internally, the ideal size for your finger, or a keyring.
The right hand side features the 4.4mm port. As mentioned previously, this is my first DAC. So, I was unaware that a 4.4mm plug was needed.
I put a call out on X for recommendations for a 4.4mm/3.5mm adapter and thankfully Treble Well Xtended replied and suggested I purchase a 4.4mm cable for my IEM’s.
So, with that solid piece of advice, I purchased a 4.4mm cable from KBEAR on AliExpress.
Using the DAC.
With never having used any type of DAC previously I wasn’t sure what to expect, I had heard DAC’s enhance your audio.
But for someone who’s never used a DAC but is lucky to have several high-quality IEM’s in my possession, I couldn’t see how a tiny device could make my audio any better.
So, my very first impression of using a DAC was…wow!
Then quickly followed by turning down the volume.
Sound was clear and more amplified. I then decided to step it up and used my TINHIFI T5S IEM’s, then simply, wow!
Comparing the T5S between the DAC and standard 3.5mm connection there’s definitely a noticeable difference between them both.
Battery Drain?
For such a small device it’s surprising the difference it makes, MeerTech had kindly gave me some pointers, mostly about the sound difference of using a DAC, also about battery drain of your device using a USB-C DAC.
So, with that in mind, I meticulously kept an eye on the battery drain when using my Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. I’m sure there’ll be some battery use, but nothing noticeable for me in terms of normal use, I certainly didn’t see abnormal battery drainage.
I also noticed the USB-C plug of the DAC had quite a tight fit into the USB-C port of my phone. I measured the USB-C plug of the DAC against a standard USB-C cable and didn’t see any difference, but there’s definitely a more tight fit than using a standard USB-C cable into my phone.
The only things I noticed was firstly the shape of the DAC, all OK until you plug it in and use your phone at the same time, the shape hurts your little finger when balancing for any length of time, you can end up with an indent that hurts after a while. Holding your phone landscape isn’t an issue, but vertically definitely does hurt.
The next thing I noticed was the heat. The ddHiFi TC44Pro USB-C DAC produces heat and the outer casing can become warm during prolonged periods of time.
But aside from that, I can’t praise this little DAC enough, the sound quality is amazing.

It offers a significant boost in sound quality compared to a standard headphone jack, with clear and detailed audio.
The build quality is excellent, and the device is very portable.
However, the shape might cause discomfort during extended use in portrait mode, and it does generate some heat.
