Today I’m going to telling you about another small business, this time it’s By Hayley. This business was set up last year (September 2019) after starting off life as a hobby. The best businesses always start off as a hobby, what starts as an enjoyable hobby becomes an enjoyable business venture.
Hayley found making custom designed jewellery therapeutic and enjoyed making pieces for others. Then she had the idea of selling her pieces.
Standard pieces take around 30 minutes to craft, but for today’s review my piece took around an hour. The piece I chose was a Turtle bracelet. By Haley has other jewellery items available on the website, these include necklaces, earrings, and anklets.
I love Turtles, ever since I saw those shocking images and videos of how badly their lives have been affected because of the misuse of rubbish I’ve been shopping differently. I’m now forever thinking of the Turtles. Buying paper products over plastic. I drive my family crazy with my ‘Save the Turtles’ speech.
So, when I saw the Turtle bracelet, I just had to have it. And this brings me onto the review of this bracelet. So here goes!
Packaging and Contents.
The By Hayley Turtle bracelet arrived in a recyclable padded envelope. Hayley is passionate about protecting our environment. Which is great!
As you can see my purchase features a cute Turtle charm with a Black waxy thread. I chose the Brown card, but you can also choose a White version. You can even choose not to have a card if you prefer. The writing on the card says:
Tie this bracelet around your wrist, as you do make a wish. When the string has worn through, it is believed that your wish may come true.
Not only can you choose your card type, but you can also choose your thread colour too. Colour choices include, Blue, Red, Green, White and other colours too.
By Hayley also supply a netted drawstring gift bag, it’s White in colour. I didn’t photograph this item as it’s just too difficult to photograph a White netted bag.
Wearing the By Hayley Bracelet.
I choose a size of 21-24cm to suit my wrist. By Hayley have options for wrist sizes from 14-17cm right upto 28-30cm. It’s worth noting that to wear this bracelet you need to loosen and slip it on over your hand, so I’d advise you to plan this into your sizing requirements.
The thread has a slightly waxy finish to it. This I believe helps to lubricate the thread for wearing and removal purposes. I was impressed by the detail Hayley had put into making the bracelet.
But there was a slight issue with the finish, where it had been tied off the knots themselves were quite rough and this started to hurt my skin. I noticed that naturally the knotted sections went underneath the design and against the skin. So, I managed to turn the thread around slightly, so the knots were facing upward and away from my skin. After around 2 weeks the knots had smoothed away as to no longer agitate.
I found removing and replacing the bracelet worked very well. You need to pull together on both sets of strings to get the desired tightness. It’s a little tricky at first, but soon becomes easy enough. I initially kept putting it on lopsided as I was pulling too much on side.

Conclusion.
I really liked my By Hayley Turtle bracelet. It’s certainly been made with a lot of love and skill. The website is clean and easy to navigate too. My only suggestion regarding the website would be to add a page to show delivery charges. This charge only becomes obvious upon adding an item to the basket and proceeding with checkout. My delivery charge of £1.50 was very reasonable though.
But, in my opinion I like to see all charges upfront prior to buying.
I was impressed how quickly Hayley made my item and posted it the very same day and sent it via Royal Mail 1st Class delivery too. I did arrive very quickly, which was brilliant.
With regards to the bracelet the knotted areas were a little rough for my skin I’m not sure whether Hayley is able to smooth these knots out further without risking damage to the bracelet itself.
But overall, I love my Turtle bracelet, I can certainly recommend you buy one.
The bracelet I purchased cost just £7.00 with a £1.50 delivery charge. An absolute bargain.
If you want the By Hayley Turtle bracelet for yourself, it’s available for purchase only on the By Hayley website.
