The Shark DuoClean NV801UK is the next generation vacuum cleaner by Shark and follows on from the hugely successful DuoClean Powered Lift-Away NV800UK model. The NV801UK has an updated look to it with new cool colour combinations.
The NV801UK also is quieter than its predecessor with noise levels being reduced by nearly 5dB.
The Shark NV801UK also has had a reduction in wattage from 850W to 750W without losing any performance.
The dust capacity has increased in size from a mere 0.5L to a new larger capacity of 1.1L. So you’ll need to empty the Vacuum Pod less.
The Shark NV801UK still keeps some of the original NV800UK features such as, the cool LED lights on the Floor Nozzle, Shark’s Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology and still being able to seamlessly go from hard floor to carpet with the dual control which is conveniently located on the main handle.
Packaging and Contents.
The Shark DuoClean NV801UK comes neatly packaged in a cardboard box, the box has lots of illustrations and product specifications printed on it. The box measures 74.0cm x 33.5cm x 29.0cm and weighs 9.9KG.
Upon opening the Shark DuoClean NV801UK box you’ll find the following items: 1x Handle, 1x Hose, 1x Vacuum Pod, 1x Wand, 1x DuoClean Floor Nozzle, 1x Duster Crevice Tool, 1x Upholstery Tool, 1x English Written User Instructions, and a quick start guide.
Shark DuoClean NV801UK.
The Shark DuoClean NV801UK is a cool looking futuristic vacuum cleaner, I love the White, Charcoal and Orange colour combinations. The NV801UK is made from durable plastic with rubber grip handles. The vacuum measures when assembled 117cm high x 26.5cm wide x 25.0cm deep and weighs 6.1KG.
Assembly of the Shark NV801UK is a quick simple process. All the parts and accessories easily click together out of the box, the supplied quick start guide also gives detailed illustrations on how to do this process if you’re in any doubt.
I found using the Shark NV801UK to be very simple. The vacuum cleaner easily cleans between hard floors and carpets with only a simple adjustment needed on the surface selector slider switch.
You can set the Shark NV801UK on two different floor settings, the first one is the Hard Floor Mode which will clean hard surfaces such as laminate, wood, lino and tiles, when in this mode the brush rolls more slowly to pick up fine dust and debris. The second mode is the Carpet Mode, this setting makes the brush rolls spin faster to pick up dust and debris on your carpeted surfaces.
Shark NV801UK Handle.
On the handle section you’ll see another slider, this slider controls the suction control and can be set anywhere between open to minimise the suction or fully closed to maximise suction.
On the back of the handle there is a handle release catch which allows you to remove the handle from the main wand, this is ideal for cleaning the stairs.
When powered on the Shark NV801UK glides smoothly and feels as though it’s moving by itself for you and takes the strain away from vacuuming. This is because of the brush rolls, when they are spinning it makes the NV801UK glide more effortlessly.
I like the 8 LED Headlights on the main DuoClean Floor Nozzle, they’re perfect for seeing under furniture and in low natural lighting conditions. The main floor nozzle also has an LED indicator, with a solid green LED meaning the brush rolls are on and working as they should. A solid red LED means there is a jam in the brush roll area and a flashing red LED is there to warn you that the Shark NV801UK is overheating and to turn it off and allow it to cool down.
The power lead is a thick insulated flex cable that’s fitted with a UK plug and a 13A fuse. The power lead measures a generous 8M in length.
Lift-Away.
This vacuum cleaner has a nifty feature called Lift-Away, this feature means that the main unit can be detached from the wand at the click of a button, turning your upright vacuum into a portable vacuum cleaner.
Powered Lift-Away goes one step further delivering power directly to the brush roll head even in Lift-Away mode. The direct power drives the brush roll to rotate, unlike other vacuums that rely on suction alone.
DuoClean Floor Nozzle.
The DuoClean Floor Nozzle is where all of the magic happens. The underside features two rollers, the first roller you see is the fluffy soft roller, this roller comes in direct contact with all hard floors, removing stuck-on dirt, fine dust and large objects whilst restoring your floors natural lustre. The second roller is the brush roll which works alongside the first fluffy brush roll, cleaning deep into the pile and carpet fibres to remove embedded hair and fine dirt.
With me living in a house with females, hair usually drops on the floor and blocks up most other vacuum cleaner rollers which normally involves me taking apart the brush rollers to unclog the hair, but with the Shark NV801UK this process has been simplified.
Maintaining the DuoClean Floor Nozzle.
With a quick press of both Brush Roll Access buttons you can access the brush roll area, inside here Shark have conveniently installed a hair removal tool into a compartment of the DuoClean Floor Nozzle.
At one end of the hair removal tool there’s a hook section that can slide through the groove on the brush roll and remove the clogged-up hair. The other end has a brush that can be used to clean the other areas of the brush rolls. The only improvement I would like to see here would be an integrated steel cutting blade instead of the plastic one which has been used, as this would make removing the tangled hair a lot easier.
To use the hair remover on the roller simply follow along the groove and the hair will become dislodged.
You can remove both rollers if a more in depth clean is required. This is illustrated in the user manual on how to do this.
Accessories.
The Shark NV801UK comes with two supplied accessories. The first one is the 2-in-1 Duster Crevice Tool and the other is the Upholstery Tool.
This is one area where I think the Shark NV801UK is letting itself down. The tools supplied are OK. But, when you put them onto the main wand and apply any kind of pressure the accessories become wedged onto the wand and become difficult to remove. There needs to be some sort of click and stay design with an easy remove release for after use.
The 2-in-1 Duster Crevice Tool has soft bristles which I found perfect for picking up fine dust and leaves no trace of dust behind. But when you apply any forcible pressure on this accessory the bristle section clicks backwards to leave the hard nozzle exposed and you keep needing to relock the bristle section forward again.
Other Accessories.
Shark do supply other accessories that can be purchased separately including a Pet Power Brush. I would have liked to have this accessory included within the box. It would’ve been ideal for cleaning stair carpets.
The accessories can be used on both the main wand or the handle directly. They also are stored on the main Vacuum Pod itself, but do get in the way of the cable when you try to wrap it around the cord hooks after use.
Emptying the Vacuum Pod.
The Shark NV801UK comes with a 1.1 Litre capacity dust collection pod. To empty you need to simply press the release catch on top of the Vacuum Pod handle and then go over to a bin and press the dust-cup empty buttons. I found all the dust and debris to easily slide out without the need to use your hands.
Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology.
The Shark NV801UK comes with Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology. This technology captures and holds over 99.9% of dust and allergens inside of the vacuum cleaner, this stops dust from circulating into the air.
The Shark NV801UK comes fitted with three filters within two areas of the vacuum cleaner. The first one is the Pre-Motor filter, this design compromises of a foam filter and a felt filter. The second filter is the post-motor HEPA filter. Both filters can easily be cleaned and the instruction on how to do this task is in the user manual. Shark also sell replacement filters if replacements are required.

Conclusion.
I really like the Shark NV801UK. It picks up dust and debris with ease and leaves carpet’s looking new and fluffed up. The vacuum cleaner is sturdy when on the stairs without toppling over. The easy to maintain rollers is a massive plus point for me.
I would like some improvements to the design and storage of the accessories. A tidy cable retractable system would also be a major upgrade.
I love the look of the three colour combinations and general styling. The Shark NV801UK is not trying to mimic other vacuums on the market but instead has set its own style. The Shark NV801UK is easy to manoeuvre and the floor setting switch is a quick, simple process. Overall I highly recommend the purchase of the Shark NV801UK.
