Ways to Declutter Your Home Office

When you have a home office because you work from home or run your own business, you want to make sure that the environment is as conducive to work as possible.

Part of this involves making sure that it is properly organised and appropriately decluttered.

But if your office looks like a bomb has gone off inside, we are going to give you a few tips which will hopefully help you get it looking at its best once again.

Separate Your Work and Home Life

If your office is full of personal mementos and other things which aren’t involved in your working life, it is time to store all of this stuff elsewhere.

Separate zones for separate purposes is a good mantra to live by.

Not only do your personal items take up space where they don’t need to, they can also end up distracting you from work.

Of course, it is fine to have a few personal decorative items as these can actually help out with your productivity.

Get Rid of Outdated Tech

Technology has been moving at such a rapid rate over recent years that it is highly likely that you have some tech in your office which is taking up space so take this in as scrap metal.

Whether this is a defunct printer, a bulky monitor or an old hard drive, now is the time to let go.

You may even be able to sell your MacBook.

Out with the old and in with the new!

Create a Filing System

Even if you keep a lot of your files online these days, it is still important to make sure that your physical files are easily accessible.

Start by investing in the storage systems that you need like folders, dividers etc.

When you are creating your filing system, this presents the perfect opportunity to declutter any old papers which you have been hanging onto which you no longer require.

Go Digital and Back-Up

And if you have not gone digital as much as you can, now is the time to rectify this.

Scan any papers that you need into your computer and file them as you go along so that they are easily located.

Make sure that you properly back up all your files as there would be nothing worse than losing everything after you have already thrown away all of the hard copies.

Tie Your Cables Together

Few things are more frustrating than having to untangle what seems like miles and miles of cables.

So, to get around this issue, it is worth investing in a few inexpensive cable ties to keep each set of cables together properly.

Not only will this help in decluttering, it will also save you time.

Decluttering your home office is something which is worth taking the time to do.

Not only will you be decluttering the physical space, you will also be helping to declutter your mind.

This is not a job that has to take a huge amount of time and effort, but it is one which is worth completing.
