Sephia SX16 Wireless Headphones

The Sephia SX16 Wireless Headphones are a Bluetooth enabled set of headphones that can be used for all devices, including Android and iOS smartphones.

You get padded ear cups that provide not only comfort but act as a prevention method for audio leakage and noise cancellation.

You can also use the Sephia SX16 as a wired set of headphones, this is a great feature if you don’t wish to use or don’t have a Bluetooth connection.

But are these any good? What do they sound like? Time to test it out!

Packaging.

The Sephia SX16 come packaged in a Light Green cardboard box with product images printed on the front, side and reverse.  The box measures 20.0cm x 20.0cm x 9.0cm and weighs 395G.

When you open the Sephia SX16 box you’ll find: 1x Headphone, 1x Micro USB Charger Cable, 1x AUX Cable, 1x Carry Bag, 1x English User Guide, 1x Sephia VIP Card.

Sephia SX16 Wireless Headphones.

The Sephia SX16 are made from mainly plastic materials with PU leather padding, they’re Black and Silver in colour.  They measure from ear-cup to ear-cup (Measuring from the bottom of the ear-cup and across the top of the headband to the bottom of the other ear-cup) 48.0cm but can extend upto 53.0cm and weigh 165G.  These headphones also fold away to a nice compact size for easy storage.

The ear cups rotate 180° and each one is heavily padded with foam and PU leather, each ear-cup measures 6.0cm x 6.0cm with a centre holed diameter of 2.0cm.

On the right ear-cup you’re able to control many different functions including Power On/Off/Answer Call Function, Volume/Track Selection, Play/Pause Functions.  On the bottom area is where the AUX and Micro USB cable inserts.  The ear-cup function area features a tactile touch area, so you’ll be able to easily control functions without any visual aid!

There’re no functions on the left ear-cup.

The headband is also padded with foam with a PU leather coating, the band has a thickness of 1.0cm.

Setting up the Sephia SX16.

Before you use the Sephia SX16 you’ll need to give them a little charge using the supplied Micro USB Cable (Which has a length of 50.0cm).

To charge you’ll need to insert the Micro USB end of the cable into the port located on the right ear-cup and plug the other end into any 5V USB output.  You can use a laptop, mobile phone power adapter, and even your TV has an output rated to 5V.

Charging takes around 2-3 hours and you’ll be able to enjoy the Sephia SX16 for upto 12 hours!

Once charged you’ll now need to pair these via a Bluetooth connection (You can also use a wired connection, I will go on to mention this below).  Power on the headphone using the power button on the right ear-cup and pressing and holding this button.  The headphones will now enter the pairing mode, now pop over to the Bluetooth menu on your device and perform a search and locate the option “SX16”, now connect.  You’re now connected and every time you wish to use the Sephia SX16, simply power them on and they will automatically connect to the last connected device.

To use the AUX cable (Which has a length of 130.0cm), simply insert one end in the port of your device and the other in the headphone port.  That’s it! You’ll now be able to enjoy a wired connection.  This is perfect for those of you who use audio equipment on laptops which don’t feature a Bluetooth connection.

Another reason to use the wired connection is that you don’t need any charge in your headphone to use them.  So, if you run out of power you can switch to the cabled version easily and still listen to your music.

Sound Quality of the Sephia SX16.

Probably the most important feature of any audio equipment is the sound quality.  I can confirm that the sound is very good.  The Sephia SX16 is nicely balanced between both Bass and Treble tones.  The sound is crisp, clear and to what I’d call CD player quality.  There’re are no distortion in the sound, even when cracked up to a high audio level.

The noise cancellation whilst wearing the Sephia SX16 is actually very good, the background noise is almost blocked out.

But, the isolation is probably the biggest issue for the Sephia SX16.  Almost everyone will be able to hear your music, and very clearly too. In fact, if you turn the volume all the way to the maximum you’d think you’re using a wireless speaker!

I also found my ear were getting quite warm using the Sephia SX16, this was only after an hour and I became to feel uncomfortable after a while.

Handsfree Calling.

Another feature of the Sephia SX16 is the handsfree mobile phone calling function.  The Sephia SX16 behaved quite weirdly with this feature, and I’ve never experienced such behaviour before.  I’m not sure if it’s just my headphone set or if this is a known issue overall.

Here is what I discovered, also it’s worth noting I’m using an iPhone 7 as this could be an important factor.

So, if you’re listening to music and get an incoming call the audio will interrupt to allow the incoming call to come through.  Now if you answer the call, you can hear the other person talking, but the microphone isn’t active to talk back.

If you hang up and then call back and use the option on your phone to use the SX16 to call, once the other person has answered you can hear them and now the microphone is active!  Strange, but once you authorise to connect to the SX16 for your call it works!

I tried again, and the same thing happened!

Oh well, I suppose you’ll just have to reject all incoming calls and play ignorant and choose your music over a conversation.  Which for me sounds like heaven!

And, anyway you’re not missing out on much as the Microphone is not very good either, you have the audio sound quality of going through a tunnel!

Conclusion.

I have rather mixed feelings about the Sephia SX16 Wireless Headphones.  The plus points for me is the design and look, I also love the audio quality.  But, the ear-cups warmed up my ears too much for comfort and the handsfree calling feature was a complete fail!

But, what one person finds uncomfortable another will find comfort! Maybe it’s a matter of opinion.  The Sephia SX16 currently has a 4.3 rating out of 5 on Amazon (Based on 934 customer reviews), so maybe the Sephia SX16 headphones just aren’t for me!
