Today I’ll be reviewing the Peanutaoc Y-12 Wireless Earphone. According to the Amazon product page it’s a bone conducting earphone with built-in microphone.

So, what is bone conduction? Bone conduction earphones/headphones are designed in such a way that they effectively become your eardrums. These audio products decode the sound waves that are produced and converts the vibrations of soundwaves into the Cochlea as sound.

Sounds very technical doesn’t it?

This Peanutaoc Y-12 Wireless Earphone is supposed to be a budget-ended version of more expensive audio technology.

But does it work? Sound Quality? Time to test it out!

Packaging and Contents.

The Peanutaoc Y-12 Wireless Earphone comes packed in a zip bag and the packaging weighs a mere 20G. Inside the bag you’ll find 1x Earphone, 1x Micro USB Cable, 1x Chinese/English User Guide.

On the end of the hook design you’ll see a Micro USB charging port and towards the pointed area of the hook is the in-built microphone.

Before use you need to charge the Peanutaoc Wireless Y-12 Earphone using a 5V DC power source. Pretty standard stuff to be honest. Charging takes about 1.5 hours for 6 hours’ worth of usage.

To connect to your device, you’ll need to press and hold the power button located on outside area of the hook. You’ll then need to perform a Bluetooth search on your phone for Y-12 and confirm pairing.

There’s also a LED indicator located next to the power button also.

Sound Quality.

Usually the most important factor with regards to audio products, is the sound. Why else would you buy them? When I first powered on the Peanutaoc Wireless Y-12 Earphone and connected to my Amazon Music account I spent the next 10 minutes in bouts of laughter.

A first, I must admit. The sound quality is the worst I’ve ever heard, and I’ve heard some awful audio gear over the last 3 years on this website. It’s truly dreadful, but funny dreadful. The sound is literally a small speaker broadcasting from a plastic hook. It reminds me of a phone call, where you can hear the other person without using loudspeaker when pull the phone away from your ear.

There’s no bone conducting technology whatsoever, it’s literally a cheapy speaker in an even cheaper plastic moulded hook design.

The microphone is totally crap too; you must shout to be heard. In fact, you’d be better off popping your head out of window and shouting to whomever you’re talking to on the phone, even if that person lived hundreds of miles away.

The advertised Bluetooth range is 10M, I couldn’t get to 2M without it completely losing signal. I then out a hat on and no signal was able to transmit!

The user guide is also useless, text is too small and what text you can read is ineligible anyway.
