OWSOO F9 TWS Earphones

Today I’ll be reviewing these OWSOO F9 TWS Earphones. I love audio products and never turn down the opportunity to review some new earphones.

These earphones are a True Wireless Stereo (TWS) pair of earphones. The supplied charging box also doubles up as a powerbank, enabling you to charge your mobile device.

I’ve never heard of the brand OWSOO. A quick search on Amazon brings up multiple audio and electronic goods. These earphones are very generic, and you’ll find multiple brands selling the same model, they’re certainly not unique to OWSOO. Google search for the term F9 TWS Earphones and you’ll find multiple brands selling these earphones.

But are they any good? Sound quality? Time to test them out!

Packaging and Contents.

The OWSOO F9 TWS Earphones came delivered to me in a beat-up box. The below image is how I received them; they were sent in a padded envelope. So, not great if you were to purchase these as a gift. The box measures 14.0cm x 10.0cm x 3.5cm and weighs 115G.

Inside the box you’ll find the following: 1x Pair of earphones, 1x charging box, 2x additional pairs of silicone tips, 1x micro USB charging cable, 1x English (well sort of) user guide.

OWSOO F9 TWS Earphones.

Each OWSOO F9 TWS Earphone measures 3.0cm x 1.5cm x 1.5cm and weighs a mere 4G. They’re black in colour and each feature either a R or L symbol on the back to indicate correct ear use.

They come supplied situated in the rechargeable charging box. You’ll need to remove the protective tape before allowing them to charge. This tape cuts off the charging circuit and won’t enable the charging pins to contact each earphone.

You’ll need to charge the charging box for around 1-2 hours using the supplied micro USB cable (which measures 30.0cm). If you want you can use any micro USB cable, it’s a generic charging cable. You’ll need to plug the USB-A side into any 5V DC power source. Once charged the charging box will hold around 4 charging cycles for the earphones.

The earphones take around an hour to charge and will be indicated with a red LED light which will turn to blue to indicate a full charge.

Charging Box.

The charging box measures 7.5cm x 5.0cm x 3.0cm and weighs 70G. You’ll also notice that the lid is translucent which allows you to see the built-in LED charging indicator of remaining battery life of the charging box.

On the front you’ll see a silicone cover. Underneath this cover you’ll see the micro USB input charging port; you’ll also see a USB-A output port too. The in-built 1500mAh lithium-ion battery also doubles up as powerbank. I was able to charge my iPhone 7, although not very well and recorded an output of 4.7V/0.63A, at this rate it’ll take nearly twice as long to charge your device compared to your standard charging setup. Also, the LED charging indicator runs down a percentage of battery power every 5 seconds. So, within 8 minutes the charging box will be completely run down.

It’s probably OK for a quick charge, or to be used for a low powered LED torch, but isn’t suitable for anything like your phone.

Using the Earphones.

To use the OWSOO F9 TWS Earphones for the first time you’ll need to ensure firstly that they’re charged. Once charged, remove them from the charging box and place them into your inner ear canal. Once inserted you need to slightly twist them so that they fit flush to your outer area.

You’ll hear a generic voice prompt to indicate power, you’ll now need to perform a Bluetooth search on your device. The earphone will flash alternately blue/red whilst this process is carried out. Connect to the option ‘F9’ and you’ll hear another voice prompt confirming a successful pairing.

The earphones are touch sensitive and you’re able to do a range of controls on the earphones themselves. You’re able to do the following:

• Pause/Play: Tap once on either earphone.
• Answer/End a call: Tap once on either earphone.
• Reject Phonecall: Tap and hold on either earphone for 3 seconds.
• Siri: Tap and hold on either earphone to activate Siri.
• Track Selection: Double tap on the right earphone to skip, double tap the left to go back.
• Volume: Tripe tap on the right to increase volume; triple tap the left to decrease the volume.

The touch-sensitive on ear controls do work quite well, once you get used to the sweet spot of controlling them. It takes some practice and lots of annoying pausing/playing whilst you learn to skip tracks and control volume. Usually I find these types of controls on TWS earphones too sensitive, but in fairness to the OWSOO F9 TWS Earphones they aren’t overly sensitive.

The in-built microphone allows you to answer phone call and use Siri. It’s an OK feature and at the usual microphone quality for these types of earphones.

When you’ve finished with the earphones simply put them back into the charging box, they’ll start to charge and disconnect from your device. Removing them again will result in automatic pairing to the last known device.

Sound Quality.

At first, I wasn’t impressed with the sound, it was lacking bass. But a simple switch up with the bigger pair of silicone tips greatly improved the sound. It’s amazing how different earphones sound with incorrectly sized ear tips.

The OWSOO F9 TWS Earphones aren’t going to win any awards with regards to sound quality. They’re OK and an average sounding pair of cheapy earphones. What they do have in favour though is comfort, they’re incredibly comfortable.

Sound cancellation is OK, most unwanted background noise is removed, noise isolation is average, there’s some sound leakage.

The sound starts to distort around 3/4 in volume, which is about the usual for cheap TWS earphones.

The OWSOO F9 TWS Earphones are fitted with a V5.0 Bluetooth BT8832A chipset, this provides a working distance of around 10M before they start to lose signal. These earphones are best used for audio use as there’s a noticeable sound delay between lip movement and vocals to your ears, you’re around a second off live vocal. So, if you’re planning on using these earphones to watch video, you’ll be left frustrated.

Conclusion.

OWSOO F9 TWS Earphones are OK, they’re certainly nothing spectacular but are perfect for everyday use. The supplied user guide could do with some work, it’s littered with poorly translated text and the text is also too small. OWSOO advertise that these earphones are waterproof, and they’re IPX7 rated, so great for using in an outdoor environment such as rain and will be sweatproof too.

Sound is average and the Bluetooth signal is average also, there’s some vocal lag between the video/audio transmission.

Overall, I’m happy to recommend these earphones, they’re cheap and OK for everyday use. Obviously, they’re not going to impress an audio enthusiast, but the average consumer will be happy with them.
