Oliphant Executive Desktop USB Fridge

The Oliphant Executive Desktop USB Fridge is a nifty desk gadget that allows you to keep a can of drink cool all day whilst you get to work at your computer.

Simply plug in to any spare USB 1.1 port and in an instant the fridge gets to work and will chill your favourite beverage to a nice chilled 8°C.

This desktop gadget has been designed to fit all standard 330ml cans that’s available from all major drinks manufacturers.

But will it work? Time to test it out!

The Oliphant Executive Desktop USB Fridge comes packaged in a very nice designed cardboard box, with picture illustrations and specifications printed on it.  The box measures 21.0cm x 14.5cm x 10.5cm and weighs 480G.

Oliphant Executive Desktop USB Fridge.

The Oliphant Executive Desktop USB Fridge is made from mainly plastic materials, it’s Black and Silver in colour.  The fridge measures 18.5cm x 8.0cm x 9.5cm and weighs 330G.

To use this fridge all you need to do is plug in the USB cable (Which has a length of 114cm) into any spare USB 1.1 port.  That’s it!

Within seconds the internal chill plate will rapidly start to climb down in temperature.  And, the in-built fan rejects the ambient temperature from within the fridge.  The time it takes to chill a can varies.  This is due to the temperature of the can in the first instance as this fridge only features one chill plate which cools the bottom of a can.

You need to be patient and allow time for the can temperature to slowly cool as cooling takes place from the bottom to the top.  Obviously a much better design of side and back chill plates would chill far more quickly.

But, added chill plates will require a bigger heatsink to reject the unwanted ambient heat and will require a bigger power source.

I found this fridge did chill, but only the bottom of a can.  It’s great for open cans though, as the more liquid that is consumed, the quicker the chilling process.

Conclusion.

This is a great desktop gadget.  It works OK but don’t expect your can of drink to have any beaded condensate drops that you get from chilling a drink in your fridge at home.  The chilling plate does get to work instantly, and you can feel the difference by touch on the plate itself.  I think a layer of insulation on the inside of the fridge would better maintain and improve the cooling efficiency.

Overall though, I still think this is a nifty desktop gadget and I’m sure would be great on a desk in an office somewhere.
